The work addresses the interpretation and economization of monstrosity as a missing link, using the examples of microcephaly and hypertrichosis lanuginosa, with a focus on a holistic understanding of the topic. The interdisciplinary interpretation is emphasized, merging medical history, medical theory, social, and anthropological approaches. The holistic approach makes it clear that with anthropology emerging as a new science, anthropometry has established itself as a tool for measuring humans, thereby introducing concepts such as norm and abnormality into scientific discourse. The emphasis on the normal, the human, and the measuring and classifying ultimately integrates monstrosity into the human system.
