Hans Bischoffshausen is a significant representative of the Austrian post-war avant-garde. His painting, situated within the context of the artist movement ZERO, is reduced, material-focused, and explores the boundaries of the medium. The autumn exhibition at the Belvedere aims to make the artistic relationships with colleagues such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Bernard Aubertin, and Jan Schoonhoven tangible. The exhibition is based on the narrative of Bischoffshausen's friendship with the gallerist couple Heide and Ernst Hildebrand. In addition to his artistic development within the context of the Paris Zero movement, Bischoffshausen also appears in the preserved correspondence of the 1960s as a significant cultural mediator for Klagenfurt and Carinthia. The processing of the extensive archive of Ernst and Heide Hildebrand serves as the basis for the exhibition catalog and is thus part of the exhibition.
