The eighth artist book by Anselm Kiefer is now available in the Heiner Bastian edition. This publication also explores artistic ideas and their transformation into images. The book, which is now being released, serves as a distant dialogue with a memorandum that was intended to transform Germany into a different world. In August 1944, nine months before the end of World War II, when Germany's defeat was imminent, American Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau drafted a memorandum that aimed to turn Germany into a purely agrarian country, incapable of waging war again. While American President Roosevelt rejected the Morgenthau Plan, it was propagated in Nazi discourse as a subjugation, even enslavement, of the Germans once it became known. In literature, some authors have regarded the Morgenthau memorandum as fiction.
