Product details
Switzerland is a veritable Eldorado of multilingualism. This is becoming increasingly evident in literature as well. Many authors no longer write exclusively in one language. They draw upon a second language that is equally intertwined with their lives, publishing bilingual poetry, novels, and stories. Alternatively, they write in one of the national languages and translate texts from their mother tongue. Or they write in their mother tongue and translate Swiss texts. These authors constantly switch between different linguistic worlds. Is this a benefit for them? A tough challenge? The fourteen portraits explore the motivations for working literarily in two languages and what this bilingual writing means for the writing itself and for the languages involved.
