The Czech motorcycle manufacturer Jawa originated from a weapons factory. In the late 1920s, its owner Janecek seized the opportunity to produce motorcycles under license from the German company Wanderer. The name Jawa was formed from the combination of Janecek and Wanderer. The in-house developments from Prague were primarily characterized by two-stroke engines and, from the 1960s onwards, increasingly by sport bikes. In addition to the series motorcycles produced from 1929 to 1990, Frank Rönicke also documents in this volume the off-road and motocross machines, as well as the Jawa motorcycles from the fields of speedway, trial, and road racing.
