"Wartburg" was the name given to the cars from Eisenach starting in 1955: Founded in 1896 as the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, taken over by BMW in 1927, nationalized after World War II, and renamed Automobilwerk Eisenach (AWE), this state-owned enterprise produced the only significant domestic alternatives to the famous Trabbis under extremely difficult conditions. With concise texts, contemporary illustrations, and expressive photos, this volume of the popular STC series pays a worthy tribute to the first Wartburgs. Frank Rönicke is a recognized expert on motorization in the GDR and has already published many titles on this subject.
