Study Edition

Summary:
Gustav Radbruch (1878-1949) was one of the most significant legal philosophers of the 20th century. His legal philosophy has also gained practical importance in the legal examination of the injustices of the Nazi regime and the SED.

This volume contains Radbruch's main work, his now-classic "Legal Philosophy" from 1932, as well as three of his post-war texts: the unpublished draft of a foreword for a planned new edition of "Legal Philosophy" created around 1947, the leaflet "Five Minutes of Legal Philosophy," and the influential essay "Legal Injustice and Superseding Law." The volume is rounded off with editorial notes, an introduction by the editors to Radbruch's legal philosophy, and a bibliography.

In the new edition, Radbruch's original text has been thoroughly reviewed once again. The concept of the volume remains unchanged. Some references have been added to Radbruch's draft foreword. The editorial notes have been supplemented and clarified, particularly additional notes by Radbruch that were found in his estate have been taken into account. The editors' introduction has been slightly revised, and the bibliography has been updated.
