Product details

The Munich Old Town is, in fact, new. Its buildings largely date from the post-war decades. Large areas around the Frauenkirche were ready for redevelopment as leveled building land by the end of the rubble clearance. The fact that the Old Town, meaning the area within the Old Town Ring, appears at first glance as a cohesive ensemble is no coincidence, but rather the result of careful planning and prudent construction and monument policies. The book "Munich's Planned Old Town" by Carmen M. Enss outlines the planning and implementation steps of Munich's reconstruction. For the first time, exclusive drawings from the city archive are published here - a detailed urban plan at a scale of 1:1000, specifically created for analyzing the damage, accurately mapping the historical buildings, and planning urban modernizations and renovations of the Old Town.
