Abstract: The intention of this paper is to provide an overview of municipal economic policy. To this end, its objectives are first examined to clarify the question of why municipal economic policy is pursued at all. Since European regulations are becoming increasingly important for municipalities, the framework conditions of the new German government system are then explained to clarify the environment in which it currently takes place. Subsequently, the question of how is addressed. This involves examining the key tools available to municipalities for economic policy.
