This essay does not present a new retelling but rather poses a question: Did "1968" really happen? Of course, the year 1968 existed, just as the associated student movement took place. But was "1968" truly the turning point that led a rigid, immobile world into an open future? In any case, the myth of "1968" serves as a narrative occasion that must be explored. For individual biographies, it is true that they can be more compellingly told through a critical, transformative event; the same applies to the retelling of societal developments: If there is a Kairos, the decisive moment through which chronological succession can be influenced, everything can be explained in hindsight. However, such supposed suddenness does not simply fall from the sky.
