In light of the new Basel jazz training center, the instructors outlined their dreams of an ideal music room years ago. The music dream room has now become a reality. In September 2014, the Jazzcampus on Utengasse was opened: perfect and atmospherically pleasant classrooms, a performance and recording hall with exemplary, unparalleled acoustics, and a jazz club as a window to the city – altogether a unique place for jazz. The present book by Steff Rohrbach and Peter Rüedi describes the journey of jazz education in Basel from its beginnings to the campus, recounts the complex planning and construction process, and highlights jazz and jazz education through twelve exemplary portraits of instructors.
