Patient safety is the top priority in medical care. Research in so-called High Reliability Organizations, such as aviation, has shown the impact of cultural factors on safety. A positive safety culture is also associated with improved patient safety. Thus, measuring safety culture not only raises employee awareness but also provides the opportunity to identify existing strengths and weaknesses as a risk indicator and to evaluate the effectiveness of derived measures through repeated measurement of safety culture.
