The forensic relevance of delusions and schizophrenia is by no means just a specialized topic in forensic psychiatry, but rather an issue that arises in everyday psychiatric practice. There are several reasons that call for a thorough examination of the forensic relevance of schizophrenic disorders and delusional syndromes. Firstly, it must now be considered established that patients with schizophrenic psychoses have a higher risk of committing violent acts, including homicide. Secondly, there is a decline in psychopathological knowledge within psychiatry, which promotes misjudgments regarding the risks patients pose to themselves and others. Not only in the context of assessments, but also as a result of reviewing all documents and thoroughly engaging with the patient's life, illness, and criminal history, an evaluation must be made.
