Product details

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad, private documents of one of the most prominent generals are being presented for the first time. Walther von Seydlitz was one of the highest-ranking commanders in Stalingrad. However, even before the encirclement, he had doubts about the Nazi conquest and military policies. He strongly opposed Hitler's order to hold out and called for a breakout from the encirclement. During his captivity, he cooperated with the Red Army and German communists to eliminate Hitler's terror regime and to quickly end the already lost war. The Reich Court sentenced him to death in absentia for this. After 1945, Seydlitz ended his cooperation with the Red Army and was subsequently sentenced to death as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, later being pardoned to 25 years in prison. In 1955, he finally returned to the Federal Republic.
