Product details

Sustainability is, for some, an overloaded term both in content and morality, while for others it represents a forward-looking comprehensive framework for action. A quarter of a century after the Brundtland Report, the demand for sustainability has indeed reached urban areas, but its implementation is still not very systematic. The significance of neighborhoods as a reference level and contextual condition has hardly been taken into account so far. This volume collects positions on sustainable neighborhood development and illustrates them with case studies. The contributions explore the appropriate modes for steering complex processes of sustainable neighborhood development. Finally, recent research findings on monitoring and evaluation at the neighborhood level are presented. The book is aimed at researchers, educators, and students in urban geography, urban sociology, urban ecology, and related disciplines.
