In 1938, a young woman is chased away by the neighbors from the village. Her husband, an influential tribal leader, was killed by government soldiers as a guerrilla fighter. The villagers fear further acts of retaliation. With her five-year-old daughter in hand, the woman embarks on a difficult journey. Hunger and cold ravage the villages, the men are conscripted for military service or hide in the mountains. The rebels' thoughts revolve around honor, revenge, and blood, while the children and women fight for mere survival. The mother is simply looking for a quiet place for herself and her little girl. However, the new secular power designates her, contrary to archaic customs, as the heir to her deceased husband's vast lands and places the fate of the villagers in her hands. She now finds herself in a relentless struggle between families for land and influence. And in the midst of it all, a little girl and a strange doll that looks like a moth.
