Due to my engagement with extraordinary states of consciousness, which I call 'holotropic' and with which I have been working for over fifty years, I propose a fundamental revision of the premises of modern psychiatry, psychology, and psychotherapy. These pertain to the nature of consciousness, its relationship to matter, the dimensions of the human psyche, the structure of emotional and psychosomatic disorders, as well as certain strategies of psychotherapy. From my perspective, spirituality appears to be an essential attribute of the human psyche and human existence in general.
