Product details
The study addresses the fictionalization of the ongoing violence in Haiti following the fall of the Duvalier dictatorship in 1986. Against the backdrop of a critical assessment of the discourses on violence in the post-Duvalier era, the author discusses how violence in contemporary Haitian novels is processed as a collectively relevant traumatic experience, thereby making it accessible for collective memory through the symbolic space of fiction. In this context, the investigation demonstrates how the literary text provides critical impulses for societal processes of coming to terms with the past and subversively challenges one-sided stigmatizations from the perspective of a marginalized culture.
