In addition to numerous integration requirements that all migrants face, Jewish migrants in the Federal Republic of Germany are additionally confronted with various definitions of Jewish identity. Being Jewish was a stigma in the former USSR, which made positive reference to it difficult. Other identity-forming aspects, such as the acquisition of professional positions, received a strong enhancement, while in the Federal Republic of Germany, the understanding of being Jewish as a religion prevails. Olga Goldenberg demonstrates in her current study, based on a qualitative investigation of biographical interviews with young migrants in Germany, the heterogeneous identity concepts that exist between national, ethnic, and religious orientations and how these are influenced by experiences of exclusion from the German host society.
