1941: In Berlin, two young people, Leonie Rosner and Walter Frankenstein, meet. They fall in love and get married, and in 1943, their son Peter-Uri is born. When they are to be deported to the extermination camps, the Frankensteins go into hiding with their six-week-old baby. Determined not to let their lives be taken from them, they achieve the unimaginable: Leonie, Walter, Peter-Uri, and their second son Michael, born in 1944, survive underground, without papers, without money, relying on courage and the solidarity of others. 1945: After liberation, their odyssey is not over. They want to leave Germany and start a new life in Israel. Walter Frankenstein is interned by the British Mandate authorities while trying to immigrate to Palestine. It takes almost two years for the family to reunite. The following years see the Frankensteins trying to establish a new existence in Israel, during the War of Independence in 1948 and the formative years of the young Jewish state.
