Nicholas of Cusa (1401 - 1464) described his thinking as a gradual development that led him to the insight that truth does not lie hidden but rather cries out in the streets. He clearly marked the stages of his intellectual development. Most representations of Cusanus's philosophy have not benefited from his insights, as they predominantly interpret De docta ignorantia (completed in 1440) or selected individual texts. In contrast, this book aims to characterize each of his writings from 1430 to 1464 in a thoughtful manner, creating a dynamic overall picture of Cusanus's thought. It presents his arguments in chronological order and compares them with the goal of a genetic analysis. Flasch's book remains focused on the individual texts and their philosophical substance while also examining the interconnections.
