Berlin letters
German, Ferdinand Hardekopf, 2015Product details
He has been a secret tip for a hundred years, sworn by all: Kurt Tucholsky, Hermann Hesse, Hugo Ball, Joseph Roth, Heinrich Mann, Walter Benjamin. Even his contemporaries did not know where and under what names he wrote. He used at least four pseudonyms, and many of his texts appeared under initials like 'F. H.', 'F. Ha.', etc. However, his ability to make an impact was also hindered by the political circumstances; during World War I, Hardekopf went into exile in Switzerland, and during World War II, he was already in France, was interned, and barely survived. His manuscripts were lost, so his work will remain forever fragmented. He began at the age of 25 with Berlin feuilletons in a provincial newspaper. These captivating texts, recently rediscovered, depict life in Berlin at the turn of the century.
