The story is quickly explained: In "Waiting," a girl sets off into the summer nature with her mother and grandmother to pick yarrow for tea. In "Helping," the second title by these authors, a boy accompanies his grandmother on an outing to collect rose hips. It is precisely in the simplicity of the storytelling that a whole way of life is conveyed: the calm and completely unexcited interplay of generations, the shared joy of life, the beauty of the seasons, the unobtrusively passed-down knowledge of the elders to the younger ones, and the patience and love with which one moves in nature and with each other. The large-scale images by Caitlin Dale Nicholson (acrylic on canvas) represent painted deceleration and capture the everyday idyll in a way that is both unpretentious and immediately touching.
