Vivaldi's fate - meteoric rise with op. III, esteemed opera composer and impresario, financially ruined by Cardinal Ruffo, impoverished death in Vienna - is reflected in the afterlife of his work. After a century of oblivion, it was only gradually rediscovered during the Bach Renaissance and today is at the center of music-making in homes, concerts, broadcasts, and CD recordings.
