Hegel's philosophy of law is a kind of logic of the bourgeois individual in the sense of a conceptual commentary on the institution of constitutional laws. It analyzes methodological stages in the order of explicitly regulated forms of practice and critiques classical natural law in its intuitionism and Kant's ethics in its formalism. The institution of property is reconstructed as an experience-saturated moral form of civil freedom, even if it may lose its meaning in pure capitalism. It is important to avoid common misinterpretations of concepts such as idea and notion, spirit and nature, will and freedom, the state, and a government that is always, in form, also monarchical. This involves the rediscovery of Hegel as the social-liberal philosopher of freedom and the rejection of the notion of him as a state philosopher.
