State and politics in Horkheimer and Adorno
German, 2014Product details
Horkheimer and Adorno made a significant and unparalleled contribution to the understanding of capitalist society in the 20th century. The philosophical matrix is an interdisciplinary approach that relates economic, psychological, and cultural theoretical investigations to one another. However, a political theory in the true sense remained unwritten. There are only approaches in various contexts, which are presented in this volume: social-psychological (authoritarian character, collective narcissism), power-theoretical (racket theory, managed world), and more narrowly state-theoretical (authoritarian state, state capitalism). Other topics include criticism of liberalism, political negativism, and the relationship to Marxism. Although the authors do not shy away from addressing problems in Horkheimer's and Adorno's political thinking, they do.
