Product details
The first volume of a three-volume bibliography on peace theories addresses the development up to the end of classical philosophy around 1830: peace ideas from the world religions and European philosophical, theological, and international legal traditions from Plato to Hegel, from Thucydides to Clausewitz. Detailed introductions to each author outline the position of peace theory within their philosophy and political theory, as well as its significance in the history of theory. The secondary literature since World War II is referenced in detail. This bibliography provides an accurate overview for the first time in decades and is the first of its kind at the level of contemporary historiography of philosophy. Subsequent volumes will cover the development in the 19th and 20th centuries. The history of peace theory is much less well-known than the other.
