For the first time, the book edited by Thomas Steensen, the long-time director of the Nordfriisk Instituut, presents a work on the theme of Christmas that includes reports, stories, poems, songs, and recipes from various regions of North Frisia. Famous and lesser-known, as well as new publications in Frisian dialects, Low German, and High German are compiled in this extensive volume, illustrated with works by the well-known North Frisian artist Marie Tångeberg. Together with the interspersed texts from the editor, a 200-year span is covered, showcasing the diverse and rich customs of the islands, Halligen, Frisian Helgoland, and the mainland. Thus, the Christmas season in North Frisia, starting from the first Advent until the Day of the Three Kings, can be comprehensively presented.
