A poor sled boy wants to warm himself by the fire in the cold. He finds a small golden key under the snow and an iron box beneath the earth. Expecting precious items, he discovers the small keyhole and unlocks it. The narrator concludes that we must now wait until he has opened it. This is the story as it appears at the end of the Grimm fairy tale collections. The Swiss picture book artist Käthi Bhend has taken this story as an opportunity to tell her own. Without words, only in her unique fantastical visual language. In the twelve impressive images, we meet the little old woman who sets off to the castle with her cat. Along the way, she undergoes a metamorphosis and transforms into a child, continuing her journey until she ultimately becomes what she was again: a little old woman.
