Ultrasound diagnostics are taking over emergency medicine. Emergency sonography has now become an integral part of examining a patient in acute situations. The sonography is not only performed within a hospital but is increasingly being conducted using small portable devices directly at the site of the emergency. Potentially life-threatening conditions can be diagnosed more quickly and reliably with ultrasound, allowing for earlier emergency medical decisions and interventions. Over 350 images illustrate how to recognize typical emergency findings with ultrasound: anatomy and sonomorphology of all organs, examination procedures and optimization options, the most common emergency findings and their differential diagnoses, as well as information on further diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
