Bonhoeffer's habilitation thesis, written in 1929, is his second and final publication in the strict conceptual framework of the academic theological community. In it, Bonhoeffer seeks a mode of thought that aligns with revelation, which liberates theology from the external determination imposed by idealistic and ontological system philosophies. He claims nothing less than the resolution of the aporetic philosophical-theological conceptualization of his time, from which he develops his version of the thesis that theology should serve as a function of the church.
