The central theme of the new three-volume study is the modular planning and design method transmitted by the Roman architect Vitruvius in his treatise "De architectura libri decem," its derivation from the Ancient Orient, and its continuation in Greek and Roman antiquity, through the Middle Ages, up to the beginning of modernity around 1800. The three volumes establish the connection between architecture and the historical and cultural interlinking of cultures or empires. This work provides a comprehensive overview from the high culture of the Ancient Orient to the High Middle Ages, with a glimpse into the Renaissance. Regardless of stylistic variations and political geography, the modular planning method was employed in all regions, maintaining its fundamental principles up to the present day.
