Product details

The area located north of Worms between the Rhine and the hilly landscape, where the Rheinhessen old Rhine towns of Gimbsheim, Eich, and Hamm are situated, was home to Jewish families for more than 300 years. As rural Jews, they were part of the German-Jewish life that was irretrievably lost in this region in 1939 with the departure of the last Jewish resident from Gimbsheim. The documentation presents the life stories of the Jewish families who once lived in the old Rhine region, from their initial settlement to their expulsion in 1939. It traces the life paths of the survivors and their descendants up to the present day and depicts the lives of the families in exile in North America. Through the exploration of biographies, the family structures and relationships between the individual Jewish families of the three old Rhine communities and far beyond become visible.
