Product details

An island in the lagoon. A small house with light blue shutters. A vine arbor, vegetable beds, and soon a patch of grass. The old fisherman Matteo brings Luca to the island in spring, where he will stay until the end of summer. Luca needs to think, to find himself. Pain in his hand forces him, the musician, to take a break. On the island, he has little contact with the outside world, consciously refraining from news, and rarely rows out into the lagoon to explore the area. Here, only the tides dictate the rhythm of the days. Two cats keep him company, he watches the garden grow, and observes the birdlife around the island through the binoculars of his late mother. The silence allows for reflection, and suddenly something new and unexpected emerges. As the shimmering heat of summer gives way to autumn storms, Luca is ready to return to the mainland: carrying his viola and a valuable gift from the old fisherman. This novel tells in broad, calm strokes about the desire for solitude, an escape from everyday life, and healing in a landscape between sky and sea. A musician turns his back on the world and discovers the healing power of nature and solitude. A contemplative slow novel about deceleration, digital abstinence, and the search for what is essential. For readers who appreciate slowness, a connection to nature, and a poetic narrative style. A modern hermit book about a summer in the lagoon of Grado.
