Oedipus - he killed his father and fathered four children with his mother. When he realizes what he has done, he blinds himself. This is the tragedy of the once powerful king of Thebes. Exiled from there, aged and accompanied only by his daughter Antigone, he longs for a peaceful death in Kolonos near Athens. Yet even there, the shadows of the past catch up with him: Thebes is threatened by a bloody civil war, in which both sides want to force the weary Oedipus, tired of life and suffering, to join their cause. As in his renowned adaptation of the "Orestia," Peter Stein, an internationally acclaimed director and artistic director, once again adheres to his ideal of providing a clear, contemporary, accurate, and complete rendition of the ancient text, with the primary goal of ensuring comprehensibility.
