This book describes various aspects of ecological building technology following a description of the now-recognized conditions for comfort in spaces. The thermal behavior of buildings, particularly the storage of heat using various active and passive methods (such as component activation, geothermal storage, night cooling, etc.), is discussed. The individual system concepts (solar utilization, combined heat and power, heat pumps, and geothermal energy, among others) of ecological building technology and their requirements are presented. After explaining integrated building concepts (atriums, facades, indoor air technology, and natural ventilation), 55 constructed objects with special integrated concepts of ecological building technology are introduced, categorized by usage types. Each example includes key notes, some parameters, and chapter references to the respective sections.
