B.A.U. – Pioneers of Eco-Architecture

We humans build and live in ways that are immensely harmful to the climate – a large portion of greenhouse gases can be attributed to this economic sector. Therefore, climate- and environmentally-friendly buildings are more necessary today than ever. In light of numerous crises, we also need spaces that have a regenerative effect, that are beautiful, that let nature in, and that provide rest for both people and nature.

From the very beginning, the main concern of the Federal Association of Architecture and Environment (B.A.U.) has been to build using building biology methods, renewable energies, and natural building materials. Founded in 1981, this cooperative association of architects and planners has been pioneering eco-social construction for 40 years. Ute Scheub portrays 25 very different B.A.U. members and their building methods in this richly illustrated volume. Their works showcase the enormous potential of human- and planet-friendly architecture and urban planning.
