Ecological and social sustainability often comes last in our capitalist-oriented world, following the motto: "We can only afford nature and environmental protection and social services once the economic aspects are in order." However, today's understanding of capitalism is merely a distorted version of itself and is based on a fundamental flaw in business accounting. True capitalism operates when the total wealth of all values in a society—including natural spaces, biodiversity, supply security, and resources—is not consumed but preserved and increased. How is it that calculations are incorrect, leading to prices and balance sheet values that do not reflect economic reality in the slightest? The reason lies in the incompleteness of corporate financial accounting.
