The correspondence between Stefan George and Karl as well as Hanna Wolfskehl is the only one that accompanies George throughout his entire life. The deep friendship between the two poets, which is evident in their letters, the openness of their exchange, and the references in the correspondence to the broader cultural and literary history from the turn of the century to the end of the Weimar Republic make this edition a source of unique value. The carefully and thoroughly annotated edition includes a total of 860 pieces of correspondence, which are housed in the Stefan George Archive in Stuttgart. The correspondence is characterized not only by its duration (1892-1933) and intensity but also by the very personal involvement of Hanna Wolfskehl. This unique connection between George and his friend’s wife has largely remained unknown in research so far.
