Abstract: In the following paper, I will discuss the life of Olav Haraldsson from his birth until his death. Furthermore, my main focus will be on his cult status in Scandinavia. How and when did Olav become a saint? And why? Several inconsistencies within the history are likely to arise. It is important to consider the most plausible of all stories as the true account. Who was this figure Olav, who attracted so many enemies as the King of Norway and was ultimately canonized after his death? I aim to answer all these questions within the framework of this paper and to shed light on the cult figure Olav the Saint.
