Namibia not only represents unique nature, African expanses, and interesting people, but it also always includes a piece of German history. Anyone traveling to Namibia will inevitably confront this. The colonial era has left its marks. An old diary brings these traces back to life: Sergeant Richard Christel traveled the vastness of Namibia as a freight driver for the Imperial Protection Force from 1905 to 1907. He later documented his somewhat adventurous experiences in writing, providing readers today with an insight into that time. Almost a hundred years after these events, the writings of Wilhelm H. Laakmann complement this narrative, as he and his wife embarked on a quest in Namibia to document and comment on the sergeant's accounts from a contemporary perspective.
