Product details
Following Plato's example, Cicero planned to follow his work "De re publica" with a treatise on laws. The dialogue "De legibus" is conducted by Marcus Cicero, Atticus, and Quintus Cicero, the politician's brother, in a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere at his estate in Arpinum. It consists of three books addressing fundamental questions of legal philosophy, illustrated through a commentary on sacred legislation and civil law. Written in 52/51 BC, this work demonstrates Cicero's ability to present a difficult and seemingly dry topic in a captivating manner. This is also true for the "Paradoxa Stoicorum," which Cicero wrote in early 46 BC and dedicated to his friend Brutus. Through historical and biographical examples, the author has succeeded in engaging his readers in an inspiring way with the dogmas of Stoic ethics.
