Product details

Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2016, "The Sellout" is a biting satire about the isolated upbringing of a young man and the racial test that brings him before the Supreme Court. The novel showcases a comic genius at the height of his craft. Born in Dickens on the southern edge of Los Angeles, the narrator spent his childhood as the subject of his father's racially charged psychological studies. He is told that his father's work will lead to a memoir that will solve their financial troubles. However, when his father is killed in a drive-by shooting, he discovers that there was never a memoir. All that remains is a bill for a drive-through funeral. Furthermore, Dickens has literally been erased from the map to spare California further embarrassment. Driven by desperation, the narrator sets out to rectify this injustice with the most absurd action imaginable: the reintroduction of slavery and segregation.
