Neither concert nor theater - opera performances can only be partially captured by musicological opera research or by theater studies of music theater. While musicology equated opera with operatic music, theater studies focused on the scenic dimension of operas without having access to the specific music-dramaturgical tools. It was only with the rise of performance studies and the distinction between staging and performance since the 1990s that the performative dimension of operas came into focus. Daniele Daude develops a systematic technique for opera analysis here, in which the influences and impacts of the opera performance are integrated into the analytical process.
