Product details
The Investigation Committee of Free Jurists (UfJ), founded in West Berlin in 1949 and financed by the CIA, was intended to uncover illegal conditions in the GDR. In this volume, Arik K. Komets-Chimirri analyzes the activities of the UfJ based on his investigation into the intelligence work of the jurist Götz Schlicht and the review of numerous files and documents. He examines the UfJ's operations, the efforts to combat it by the GDR's State Security, and the simultaneous infiltration by the Soviet intelligence service. The initial naivety of the CIA, which invested a significant amount of money in the UfJ and was unaware of the infiltration, can only be explained by the fact that this intelligence agency was established in 1947, while the Soviet intelligence service had much more experience.
