Optical antennas are metallic nanostructures whose resonant behavior can be deliberately influenced. In this work, optical antennas made of aluminum and gold are fabricated, optically characterized, and numerically investigated using the FDTD method. Aluminum allows for resonances into the UV range but forms an oxide layer that modifies the antenna response. The results of the local electrical excitation of nanoplasmonic structures are presented for the first time.
