Product details

The experiences gained from radio observations of the first artificial Earth satellite showed that radio positioning methods are desirable that 1. allow for complete orbit determination, 2. achieve an accuracy equivalent to simpler optical methods, and 3. provide orbital ephemerides quickly enough to be a real aid for photographic observations with precision instruments. We have already indicated a method for orbit determination based on Doppler effect measurements at an observation point. For the evaluation, knowledge of the orbital inclination relative to the equatorial plane and the measurement of the elevation or zenith distance of the satellite at the culmination point of its apparent path were required. If the satellite is visible, which occurs rarely and is the main disadvantage of visual methods compared to radio positioning methods, then it can be...
