In this analysis of organic architecture, the concepts of the main representatives of this style are examined for the first time through their writings, sketches, and buildings, aiming to clarify and differentiate organic architecture and place it in a comparative context. The author illustrates the creative development of Henry van de Velde, Hans Poelzig, Hugo Häring, Erich Mendelsohn, Hans Scharoun, and Alvar Aalto towards an organic architecture and provides a catalog of terms derived from their writings, which reveals their distinctive position regarding architecture. The interpretation of individual sketches concerning the design method and graphic expressiveness of these planners serves as evidence of organic architecture and complements these investigations. Their most prominent buildings in Germany are evaluated for the first time exclusively from the perspective of the organic, offering an alternative view of modernity and directing a critical perspective on contemporary organic architecture.
