Dexter Morgan is not exactly the kind of man you would introduce to your mother. At heart, he is the perfect gentleman; he has a shy girlfriend and seems to lead a calm, normal life that borders on the ordinary. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami police. However, Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is a skilled serial killer. So far, he has killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. While this might lead some people to assume he is not such a nice guy, he curbs his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. But Dexter's well-organized life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Fascinated by the fact that the other killer has a similar style to his own, Dexter soon realizes that the mysterious newcomer is not just entering his territory but is extending a direct invitation to "come out and play.".
