Nestan Kvinikadze tells the story of the young generation of Georgia in her novel, who have left their war-torn country over the past twenty years to build new lives and careers in Amsterdam or elsewhere. "And they do not know that their departure, like that of the nightingales from Isfahan, the migratory doves, or the geese in autumn, brings someone joy or pain." The main character of the novel, the ornithologist Astamur, searches for the nightingales of Isfahan in various cities. He seeks refuge in a parallel world yet remains a hostage of the past. The love he encounters and experiences in St. Petersburg will always be overshadowed by his longing for home. After years, he returns to Georgia.
